The design process works best when the creative idea and the manufacturing questions are discussed together. Here is how a brand can prepare a brief, review the design and move toward an approved sample.
1. Prepare a brief that explains the idea
Start with the item you want to make: a pendant, Cuban chain, tennis necklace, bracelet, ring or another piece. Then explain the visual purpose. Is it a logo piece, a name pendant, a symbolic design, or a new interpretation of an existing style?Useful references include a clear sketch, front and side views, logo artwork, and photos that show the details you like. Identify what should be retained and what can change. A reference image communicates mood and silhouette; it does not automatically provide production dimensions or permission to reproduce someone else’s protected design. We respect your privacy and design. If you request it, we can sign a design confidentiality agreement prepared specifically for you. Let us know before sharing sensitive artwork so we can arrange the agreement at the start.
Include the target finished size, preferred stone shapes and coverage, base metal, finish, chain or clasp requirements, target quantity and desired launch timing. If some choices are still open, label them as preferences for the design team to evaluate rather than treating them as fixed specifications.
2. Design the silhouette before filling every surface with stones
In an iced-out design, it is tempting to begin with maximum stone coverage. But a readable silhouette is often the first test of a successful piece. Lettering needs enough space to remain legible. A symbol needs clear outlines. A pendant needs a bail that fits its intended chain without hiding important details.Ask the designer to consider the front profile, side thickness, reverse construction and how the piece will hang. On a logo pendant, for example, a dense stone layout may need small adjustments to preserve open spaces in the lettering. On a Cuban chain, stone coverage should be considered alongside link movement, finished width and clasp construction.
The design goal is not simply to fit as many stones as possible. It is to make the product recognizable, wearable for its intended use and feasible to produce consistently.
3. Review the digital design with production questions in mind
Computer-aided design (CAD) gives the buyer and design team a visual reference before a physical sample is made. Review more than the front rendering. Look at dimensions, proportions, stone positions, setting depth, metal around the stones, attachment points and the back of the piece.Ask practical questions: Can the pendant hang straight? Is the bail opening wide enough for the chain? Are narrow details strong enough for the intended size? Do the stone rows follow the shape without awkward gaps? Can the reverse be finished cleanly? These questions help catch design issues while changes are still easier to discuss.
Keep feedback tied to a view or dimension. Instead of saying “make it bolder,” specify which area should grow and by how much, or identify the visual reference you want the designer to follow. Confirm which CAD revision becomes the basis for sampling.
4. Choose stone and metal details deliberately
Moissanite is silicon carbide and is distinct from diamond. Its vivid fire can suit statement pieces, but the look depends on cut, size, lighting and how the stones are arranged. At Shining Star, we use VVS clarity, D color moissanite. We record the stone material and grade in your project specification, along with the shapes, dimensions or size range, and color expectations for the design. The base metal and finish should be just as clear. At Shining Star, we commonly work with 925 sterling silver and brass, and we can discuss gold options for custom projects. State the selected metal, finish color and any two-tone details in the brief and quotation. We will confirm which setting and finishing methods apply to your style.
Our VVS D color moissanite can register on a diamond tester. A tester response does not change the stone’s identity: moissanite is not diamond, and we describe it accurately as moissanite. If you need documentation, ask us about availability and coverage for the stones in your order. We recommend reviewing the actual design and sample as well as the stated grade.

5. Treat sample approval as a design decision
The sample is where the concept becomes a physical object. Review it against the approved design: overall dimensions, stone placement, visible spacing, color, setting edges, weight where relevant, clasp or bail function, reverse finish and logo details.Try the intended chain through the bail. Check whether a necklace or bracelet follows the intended curve. Look at the piece under more than one lighting condition. If you request revisions, write down the change and keep the updated design or sample reference with it.
We accept custom personal orders starting from one piece. The sample and model fee depend on the design, so we will provide a project-specific quotation before development begins. A clear approval record helps define the production reference and reduces ambiguity later.
6. Understand the one-piece starting option and the fee structure
For a brand testing a new concept or an individual customer with a personal design, a one-piece custom order can be a practical starting point. We accept custom personal orders from one piece. A design or model fee applies according to the design; custom design without that fee generally requires 50 pieces. Our standard wholesale MOQ is usually 30 pieces, and we may accept a lower quantity at a higher unit price. These are different order arrangements. Ask the supplier to show the model or design fee, production cost, quantity and unit price separately, and confirm which arrangement applies to your project. A one-piece custom order should be evaluated as a development and production decision, not priced as if it were part of a larger batch.
7. Separate design turnaround from production time
We can provide an initial design in as little as two hours, depending on your brief and project requirements. This is the initial design turnaround, not a promise that every project will be fully finalized in two hours. The time needed for revisions and sample approval depends on the design and feedback. A clear brief, reference images, target dimensions and consolidated comments help us move efficiently.Production timing is a separate stage: our estimated production time for custom moissanite products is approximately 30–35 days. Shipping time is calculated separately. We will confirm when production begins, the schedule for your order and the shipping arrangement in the quotation, especially if the product is tied to a campaign, event or seasonal launch.
8. Turn the approved design into a repeatable product
Before production, make sure the approved design, material, stone details, finish, quantity, packaging and inspection expectations appear in the order record. Keep the approved CAD or sample reference and any agreed tolerances. This gives the production team a clear target and gives the buyer a basis for checking the finished order. For future reorders, record any changes instead of relying on memory or an old chat message. Even a small change to the bail, stone size, plating color or chain length can alter how the piece looks and wears.
Start with a clear brief
Custom moissanite hip hop jewelry combines brand identity with product engineering. A clear brief, focused CAD feedback, design privacy arrangements where needed and a documented sample approval help carry the idea into production with fewer surprises. At Shining Star Jewelry, we create custom and wholesale moissanite hip hop jewelry, and we were the first supplier to introduce moissanite in hip-hop jewelry. Send us your sketch, logo or reference images with target dimensions, preferred metal and finish, quantity and timing, and we will review the project with you. We respect your privacy and design and can sign a design confidentiality agreement prepared specifically for you if requested.
